You can have Korean insurance from abroad starting April of 2014. Prior to this, people got insurance before leaving Korea. However, now it is possible for people such as trainees and sojourning employees who are abroad for a long-term stay to get Korean insurance due to this altered insurance law. The reason for this is that Koreans could not get domestic insurance while abroad and should buy it before leaving Korea. The insurance industry expects a large demand of users and offers new insurance plans that cover loss and expenses if you return to Korea due to natural disasters or if you call off your trip abroad. The new system is expected to ease inconveniences experienced while abroad, and it should be popular with travellers.
