Yeungnam University ranked first among universities in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do, with a 97.2% enrollment rate for the 2024 school year. Surprisingly, YU ranked first in the enrollment rate for the 2023 school year as well as for 2024. In the 2024 school year, YU achieved more than 25,000 applicants for the first time. This shows that YU has a clear preference.
YU ranked 8th in Korea from the Leiden Rankings for 2023. In particular, it was confirmed once again that YU’s research capabilities in mathematics and computers are world-class. Additionally, it has carried out large-scale state-funded projects such as LINC3.0 projects, RIS projects, and software-oriented university projects.
In the ‘World University Rankings 2024’ released by the Times Higher Education, YU ranked 18th in Korea. It was well received in internationally credible university evaluations, with its world ranking rising from 1000th to 800th. Also, in the 2023 government university evaluation certification announced on the 26th of last month, all evaluation indicators were certified as ‘PASS.’ In other words, YU has proven its excellence in basic educational requirements such as education, operation, and performance of universities. With this fact, it has become a stepping stone for parents and test takers when choosing YU.
Regular admissions for the 2022 and 2023 academic years and occasional admissions showed the highest competition rate ever. In the past three years, the recruitment rate of new students has reached 99%. In addition, 56 out of 60 admissions units showed that excellent students are entering the school year.
As of 2021, the competition rate for admission to YU was recorded at 5:1. In 2022, 31,000 applied for 5,000 openings. In other words, the competition rate for admission is gradually increasing to 6.4:1.
After interviewing three  current students, all said they are satisfied with attending YU. Although they were slightly disappointed when they first entered the university, now they are satisfied with their school. The reason is that there are various scholarship systems, Exchange Student Programs, employment-related support, personal counseling, and psychological tests for enrolled students. This YU support system seems to have had a positive effect on students.
The competition rate for recruitment of first-year students at YU continues to rise. As many students choose YU, it is expected that continuous development will be necessary.
