In June 2013, the Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul (It is the same as “the Park Chung Hee School” mentioned below) will produce its first graduates. The Park Chung Hee School is the first graduate school in the nation to take the former President’s name. It focuses on systematizing the Saemaul Movement in order to globalize and cultivate talented people which strengthens the basis of our economic development. It started with 32 foreign students from 15 countries in 2012, and now includes 52 foreign students from 26 countries. Fifteen of the students who entered the school in March 2012 have finished their studies, started a master’s course, and are preparing for a graduation thesis before returning to their home countries. If their theses are accepted, they will receive an honorary degree. Their course of study is full-time for one and a half years and they have to get at least a B grades for all courses. They must also demonstrate proficiency in Korean and English above a designated level. Seong-Woo Park, the director of the Park Chung Hee School says that they will attract many more advanced foreign students from now on. The Park Chung Hee School will continue to teach people from underdeveloped and developed nations about the economic model and the Saemaul spirit that helped Korea become successful after starting from nothing.
