On July 22nd, 2011 there were two sequential attacks against the ruling Norwegian Labor Party and the civilians who were attending a youth camp organized by the youth organization of the party. The culprit was Anders Behring Breivik, a 32-year old Norwegian, who first exploded a car bomb in the executive government quarter of Oslo (the capital of Norway) and then less than two hours later opened fire on the attendees on the island of Utoya where the party's annual youth summer camp was being held. At least 77 people were killed in the attacks.
Breivik is known to have antipathy toward the spread of multiculturalism, especially the proliferation of Islam in Europe. The ruling Labor Party has been promoting multiculturalism and this motivated him to commit these crimes against the party. Due to this incident, concerns over far-right extremism are spreading across Europe.
Korean society is also rapidly turning into a multicultural society, and as a result multicultural conflicts are also increasing. It is necessary for multicultural policies that best suit our society be implemented.
