The exhibition, "Ocean of Japan – To keep the Island" will be held from August 1st to September 30th, 2011 at the Museum of Maritime Science in Japan. This is basically the same exhibit that was held in 2007 in Shimane which claims ownership of Dokdo. This exhibition will be held for the first time in Tokyo. This exhibition displays models and data that illustrate Japan’s conflict regarding territorial disputes with China and Russia as well as their contentions about Dokdo. This exhibition has been planned to display the various stages of Japanese territorial recognition in order to create more understanding regarding their attempts to claim what they believe is theirs. Researchers at the YU Dokdo Institute have stated that these territorial claims are not being made by local Japanese governments, but by the central government. Based on this fact it could be concluded that the government is intentionally raising tensions about Dokdo. The Korean government should speak firmly and directly to the Japanese government regarding Korean’s position on Dokdo and publicize the problems that are being created by the exhibition to the whole world.
