The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced the 'Make Good Workplace' project on March 7th, 2011. The focus of this project is the improvement of working conditions. This project is divided into four parts. ‘Relief Workplace’ is focused on preventing industrial accidents and to promote workers’ health. The specific goal is to reduce the industrial accident injury ratio from 4.45 to 3.92 incidents per 1,000 people. ‘Fair workplace’ plans to settle discrimination against temporary employees and employment. The ‘Vibrant workplace’ initiative is focused on the improvement of the quality of work through the decrease of working hours and improvement of workfare standards. The specific goal is to reduce the average annual working hours from 2111 hours to 1950 hours by 2012. ‘Cooperative Workplace’ plan is focused on resolving conflict between employers and workers and mending their relations. This project will spread actively by promoting 300 leading companies that provide innovative workplaces. Hopefully working standards in Korea will improve through the successful execution of these projects.
