The CMDM (Chun Ma Dream Maker) participated in the Formula SAE 2001 competition in America for the first time as the korean team and for the second time as the Asian team. I feel proud that I was a representative of Korea and we had the opportunity to attempt to become a world champion in the Formula SAE competition. When I went to America in 2001, I saw a good motorsports environments like Pepboys, the village near the speedway, Sears…etc. I was surprised that anyone can repair their car by oneself in the garage. Anyone who is looking for tools can buy them in the store. If I want to find a wrench, I must go to Bugsungro by bus for 30 minutes. They usually say "backyard builder" in western culture. In other words, they can maker their in their backyard and buy tools easily.
When I participated in the competition, I was surprised that the motor companies(GM, Ford, Daimler-Chrysler) consider students to be of high value. So recruiters were receiving our resumes instantly and advertising their company continuously in booth. So sometimes they gave students and employment opportunity. Therefore a participating team must give the event host their members' resumes. The resume contains GPA, graduation, major and special skills…etc. In addition to, Companies took students to free dinners.
In korea, the car competition consists of SAE Mini-Baja korea at Yeungnam univ. (offroad type) and AARK F-125 (onroad type). But this competition has several problems. The most important thing is the supporting company. So the participating students don't have job opportunities or chance to advertise oneself.
Finally, Yeungnam univ. FSAE (CMDM) thinks that the most important thing is a lot of experience in an international sense. Surely we understand a series of problems such as support of a company, an insufficient budget, and deficiency concerns. However, we are proud to represent Korea. We think that we can accept the challenge of the Formula World Champion. It is my wish to write "Formula SAE World Champion" in my resume later.
