On July 6, Yeungnam University was chosen for the ‘Humanities and Society Convergence Talent Development Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Education. This year, the Ministry of Education introduced the project to cultivate talents that converge humanities and society by breaking down boundaries between universities and transcending space and time. The project encompasses five fields: digital, environment, risk society, demography, global, and culture. Among these, YU was selected for the digital field and aims to foster talents in digital technology application services, contributing to regional regeneration and revitalization. It also intends to nurture digital convergence creators for regional development and youth community revitalization and establish a humanities education hub to promote local historical culture’s regeneration, activation, and communication capabilities. YU plans to set up a business unit and organize its workforce by September 1.
Furthermore, YU was chosen as a ‘leading university for entrepreneurship education,’ a project supported by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, spanning five years with 750 million won in annual funding for selected universities. The chosen universities are expected to contribute to creating a regional startup ecosystem and regional development through linkages and cooperation with local governments such as Gyeongsangbuk-do and Daegu. Last week, YU hosted a launch ceremony for this initiative.
Additionally, being selected as a ‘SoftWare (SW) Center University,’ YU will receive 15 billion won in government support over eight years, starting this year. YU has secured university funds, corporate support, and response funds from Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongsan. This project aims to implement a program that contributes to the proliferation of SW education, technological innovation for local industries based on industry-academia research, and the restructuring of the SW-centered academic and educational systems.
