Q) What are some differences between the Indian education system and the Korean education system?A) I’m from India. So I will compare the Indian education system and the Korean education system first. Indian students study differently than Korean students because the Indian education system focuses only on testing the memory, it does not give any idea about practical or fundamental research, whereas the Korean education system focuses on practical and fundamental research. Because of this, Korean students may have some innovative ideas. In India, to earn better marks in a subject, every student wants to take extra classes like tutorial classes and coaching classes. Because of this, Indian students don’t have enough time to think individually, enjoy their adolescence, or work part time jobs. However, in Korea students have enough time to think and have part time jobs.

Q) What do you think of the existing courses at Yeungnam University?A) Yeungnam University students select their courses based on their area of interest and current requirements to get jobs in the industry of their choice, whereas in India it is not possible for students to select their courses. They are decided by the university. At YU, the corresponding professors decide the curriculum and evaluation process based on the current requirements to get a good job and to initiate some practical or fundamental research ideas. The professor can modify the content of the courses. Therefore, the students can easily get good jobs after completing their degree courses. In India, the professor will just give lectures and ask more questions to the students, so every student sits in the class with some fear, whereas at YU the students make presentations and ask questions. Because of this the classes are interactive.
