Modern people living in an era full of dopamine must try to escape these stimuli. As part of these efforts, the ‘Detox Challenge’ has become a health trend among Millennials and Gen Z.
As the use of digital devices becomes more common, Millennials and Gen Z are increasingly addicted to dopamine by repeatedly watching short videos. As a result, decreased concentration and addictive behavior are increasing. In this environment, the ‘Digital Detox Challenge,’ which involves not using smartphones for seven days, is in vogue to solve this problem. Also, screen time sharing, smartphone storage cases with locks, and book cafes where you must return electronic devices are gaining popularity, and efforts are continuing to distance themselves from smartphones.
In addition, stimulating food culture has led Millennials and Gen Z to frequently consume high-sugar and sodium foods such as Mala Soup and Tanghulu. These foods provide temporary satisfaction through ‘Sugar High,’ which can cause health problems like blood sugar shock and high blood pressure. To prevent this, the Sodium and Sugar Detox Challenge is also gaining popularity, improving eating habits by consuming detox foods such as tomatoes and cabbage and drinking more than two liters of water daily.
According to a survey of 18 students at Yeungnam University, 55.6% of the students knew about the Detox Challenge, and 27.8% tried it. Among the positive effects of the Detox Challenge, 40% cited reduced stress, and 60% cited improved concentration. Also, among the difficulties while trying the challenge, 80% cited difficulties in maintaining for a long time, and 20% cited misunderstandings from others due to disconnection. Despite these difficulties, all respondents recommended challenges to other students.
Detox Challenges have become an important attempt to regain a healthy life. We hope these health trends will spread to more people, and everyone can live a healthy life.
