A straight road from South Kensington to Hyde Park was designated a clutter free road in London on February 1st, 2012. The clutter free road initiative hopes to have pedestrians and cars co-exist harmoniously. The planners removed traffic lights, signs and curbs, so the sidewalks and the road are now one. The sidewalks are level with the road, which makes it easier on wheelchair and baby carriage users. Cars in these zones need to drive slowly at 32km/h. Moreover motorists drive more attentively, making eye contact with pedestrians. Test results in the Netherlands, have already shown positive safety results.
