The Daegu Civic Baseball Park opened on April 20th, 1948 and is still used as Samsung Lions’s home stadium. The park, which is in its sixty-third year of use, received an E grade in safety ratings from the plant maintenance office this year despite renovations in 1981 and 1995. This year a baseball game was delayed because of an accident caused by a blackout on April 16th. The promoters gave notice that the lighting towers could not be restored immediately and they suspended the game. The current status of these facilities has caused controversy because the local government only wants to invest public funds on a new baseball park. This has left the park in an unsettled state. There are plans to use the current ballpark for students and amateur teams when the new baseball park is built. However, as long as this park is still in use it must be improved not only for the convenience of spectators but also for the safety of the athletes.
