Which restaurant do YU exchange students visit, and what foods do they eat often? What parts of Korean culture are they interested in? The Yeungnam Observer interviewed Italian exchange student Anna Tinti while eating pizza at her recommended restaurant, ‘HOOC.’
Q1. Why did you choose this restaurant?
A1. Being Italian, I’m familiar with pizza, but I was curious about Korean-style pizza. So, I visited this restaurant with my exchange student friends and was very satisfied with the variety of delicious pizzas. That’s why I chose this restaurant.
Q2. Where do you usually eat out?
A2. I often go to restaurants in Orange Town in front of the university because there are many options, and it is convenient. Sometimes I go to a restaurant downtown.
Q3. What kind of food do you often eat?
A3. I often ate pizza and pasta in Italy, where Western food is a staple. However, one of the foods I have eaten a lot since I came to Korea is probably ‘Jjimdak’ (braised chicken).
Q4. Why do you often eat that food in Korea?
A4. It’s good to share with friends, especially in the case of ‘rosé jjimdak,’ because the taste of rosé sauce is familiar. Also, it’s less spicy than other types of Jjimdak, so it’s easier to eat.
Q5. What Korean culture are you interested in?
I’m interested in the culture of wearing hanbok. So, I participated in the event held during Chuseok by the Office of International Affairs in YU and tried hanbok, and I also tried that when I went to Andong. I am also curious about the ‘noraebang’ (karaoke) culture. Karaoke is not popular or common in Italy, so I found it interesting that Koreans frequently go to karaoke and some even go alone.
Through the interview with Anna, The Observer discovered a good restaurant and learned about Korean culture that foreigners are interested in. We always support exchange students’ lives in Korea!
