Many students want to do something special to break away from the grind of everyday life. I think most students see travel as one of the best ways to do this. However, there is no ideal time to travel during the school year because of our busy schedules. However, YU offers a program that can allow you to go abroad easily.

I also wanted to go overseas and have new experiences last vacation. At that time, I saw a recruitment notification for Window to the World, one of YU’s flagship programs. I was able to go to the U.S.A. through this program.
Window to the World provides YU students with an opportunity to have personal educational experiences abroad. Students who are selected can investigate their chosen countries on their own and have special experiences about subjects that they choose through this program. After all program assignments are accomplished you can travel individually. In order to apply to this program, you should compose a team of 2 - 3 people. Frankly speaking, the necessary paperwork to apply for the program is rather difficult, but it must be done. Window to the World requires patience and effort, and time must be invested if you want to be accepted. The necessary paperwork includes a travel plan and schedule, a self-introduction in English, and a team introduction video. I think the plan and schedule are the most important, and it is important to write maximum in detail when answering “why I chose this subject”, “the purpose of the visit”, "expectations of experience after visiting”, and “advance preparation”.
One important tip I would like to pass on to any interested students is to choose subjects that are among your actual areas of interest. If you choose a subject, you are interested in your presentation then it will be easier for you to invest the time and do a good job. Many students feel anxiety about making the team introduction video. I think it is the most important to get across your team’s passion and desire to participate. Don’t try to do too much.
If you are lucky enough to be selected there are several things you should consider before you actually go on your journey. First, you must buy an airline ticket. It may be difficult to find a cheap ticket because they only go on sale 3 months before the departure day. You must also arrange things like traveler’s insurance, accommodations, and appointments with organizations you are going to visit.
It is important for you to understand that Window to the World gives you the opportunity to travel, but you must prepare everything on your own. These processes can be troublesome and difficult, but after you finish you will feel like you have achieved something special.
There is a lot to like about this program beyond simply having the opportunity to visit other countries. The process is designed to make students work together toward a goal. The work is difficult, but it forces you to organize and focus your thoughts. I hope that any student who applies to this program will enjoy the process as much as the journey. The university will provide each team with 1/3 to 1/2 of the entire expense, and a chance to understand much more about the world around us.
