Japanese stock market, which has been rising since the beginning of the year, is soaring daily. As Japanese stock market rallies, people are paying attention to whether it will surpass the all-time high recorded during the bubble economy 34 years ago.

On February 13, the Nikkei 255, the index representing Japanese stock market, rose 2.89% from the previous trading day to close at 37,963 yen. On that day, the Nikkei Index even rose to 38,000 yen in the afternoon, the first time in 34 years that the Nikkei Index exceeded 38,000 yen since January 1990 during the bubble economy. From February 8 to this day, the Nikkei Index continued its streak of new all-time highs.

Japan’s Nihon Keizai Shimbun attributed the bullish sentiment in the U.S. stock market, which has recently been on a streak of new record highs, particularly in the technology sector, which has also influenced Japanese market’s record-breaking march. In addition, they analyzed that the recovery in Japan’s real economy, despite some signs of decline, has been linked to corporate performance, thereby fueling the stock market’s rise.

In particular, investment is locking to semiconductor-related stocks that benefit from Japan due to strong U.S. technology stocks in line with the increase in global demand for semiconductors. On February 13, the stock price of semiconductor equipment company Tokyo Electron soared 13.33%.

The bullish Japanese stock market has also been boosted by foreign investors shifting their investments to Japanese market, contributing to the rise in stock prices.

In contrast, Nihon Keizai Shimbun said the Japanese government’s ranking of funds with high investments last month showed that all the top 10 were funds invested in overseas stocks, not Japan, showing that foreign investors and  Japanese investors’ reactions to the bullish Japanese stock market were contradictory.
