Yeungnam University recently announced that it will reduce its tuition by 2.5%. Keimyung University, and Catholic University of Daegu have also announced tuition reductions of 3%. Kyungpook National Unversity and Kyungil University instituted a 5% reduction. Universities in and around Daegu have reduced tuition but the reduction rate is insufficient. The student government of Yeungnam University insists that the university reduce tuition by 7% because tuition was raised by 2.8% last year and the government policy is to reduce tuition by 5%. It is obvious this year's reduced tuition was driven by social motivation. The university has to comply with government policy and reduce tuition by 5% in order to ease the financial burden on students and their parents.
