Support and Solidarity to Sexual Minorities

  The organizing committee of the Daegu Queer Culture Festival announced that it will hold the 12th Daegu Queer Culture Festival in October this year. It has been held every year since it was first held on June 20, 2009.
 

  The committee said that the festival will be held at the plaza in front of Daegu Department Store according to the guidelines of the quarantine authorities following the outbreak of the new coronavirus infection.
 

  This year, due to the influence of COVID-19, they have significantly reduced events following the preventive measures of the quarantine authorities. The parade will also be held with only a few dozen participants, and many cultural events will be reduced. The festival, however, can be seen online.
 

  Organizers emphasized that they decided to hold the festival in this uneasy circumstance in order to express their support and solidarity to parties hurt by hatred and discrimination against sexual minorities. When the Justice Party proposed the law banning discrimination against non-regular workers, refugees, migrants, the disabled and sexual minorities last July, they argued that the clock of human rights in the Republic of Korea is still in 2013, and the lives of minorities continue to be threatened by hate and exclusion.

  They said, “We should move forward to a coexistence society that values each other with dignity, though the path to coexistence won’t be that easy.”
