Materials science and Engineering Professor Lee Moon-ho who leads a Korean Consortium was contracted by the Egyptian Ministry of National Defense for underground water business on the 11th of September 2015.
This underground water business will develop Egypt’s West Menia plain to secure both drinking and agricultural water. Also, they anticipate to distribute water to the population and to secure food resources.
The West Menia plain is a new area that the Egyptian government has planned. The first 4 places of a total of 17 new planned areas will be developed between Cairo and Luxor desert. The work for soil preparation is almost finished.
According to Professor Lee, they will develop about half of million acres using 565 pieces of underground tubing as well. Professor Lee confirmed that ‘the Nubian aquifer’ is expected to be 300- 1,000m underground using the newest technology. Also, Professor Lee will use the latest drilling techniques to supply the water.
Yeungnam university will support Professor Lee’s activities. Professor Lee said that to develop the West Menia plains, we will utilize 1,200- 1,500 technology expert very year.
