YU Got the Greatest Number of Government’s Support for the CK project

YU was selected by the Creative Korea (CK) project which promotes regional universities and university specializations. It took effect this year. Also YU got the greatest amount of government support for the CK project. It was a highly competitive project that 160 universities among a total of 195 nationwide applied for. Let’s take a look at what the CK project is and how our school was able to secure the greatest amount from the government for the highly competitive the CK project.

1. The CK project
The CK project started in 2014 for inducing reform in university composition and laid the foundation for specializing each university by the Ministry of Education and National Research Foundation of Korea.
This project will invest 203.1 billion won in upgrading regional universities (CK-Ⅰ) and allocate 5.46 billion won to metropolitan universities (CK-Ⅱ) in 2014, for a total 1200 billion won to be invested over 5 years.
989 centers from 160 universities were submitted at the project competition. Therefore the Ministry of Education chose the final selection centers via a 2 step evaluation involving quantitative evaluations and an investigation process to ensure fairness for 2 months from May.
As a result of final selection for the CK project, 265 centers of 80 regional universities and 77 centers of 28 metropolitan universities were selected. By business type, 154 centers at university autonomy type, 174 centers of support at national type and 12 centers of regional strategy type were selected by the CK project.

2. YU’s 8 centers were selected for the CK project (including 1 joint center)

Direction for Global Village Coexistence Human Resource Training Center
This center is hosted by the Park Chunghee School of Policy and Saemaul, and the Department of Saemaul International Development. The Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul was founded in November 2011. This school is managing the master’s course of saemaul for the first time. In 2013 June, this school was selected as an international cooperation leading university by the Ministry of Education. In addition, the school produced the first masters of Saemaul in August. On March 2014, this school was selected at no.1 master’s degree management organization of ‘leader and professor fostering project for regional development of emerging countries’ by the KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency).

Center for Materials, Components and Creative Human Resource Training
This center is hosted by the School of Materials Science and Engineering.

IT/Energy/BT Industry Human Resource Center Customized for the Training of Creative Human Resource in the field of Chemical Engineering
This center is working with Medi Valley of Daegu, Gyeongbuk-do and business of constructing a New regeneration energy belt.
For this center, the Department of Nano, Medical & Poly materials and the School of Chemical Engineering will work together to start a new interdisciplinary field of study based on the IT and energy sector.
Multicultural Era Korean Literature Human Resource Training Center
This center is hosted by the Department Korean Language Education.

DREAM Software Human Resource Training Center
This center is hosted by the Department of Computer Engineering and also involves the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Center for Characterization of Medicine and Fine Chemistry
This center is hosted by the Department of chemistry and also involves the School of Biotechnology.
Cultural Fusion Design Ecosystem Construction Center
This center is hosted by the College of Design & Arts.

Fusion Automobile Components and Creative Human Resource Training Center for the Realization of Creative Economy
This center is hosted by the School of Mechanical Engineering and also includes the School of Information and Communication Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, and the College of Energy Engineering from Kyungpook National University. This center aims to merge the car industry which is a regional core business.

3. How to get a great score in the CK project
1) ‌
Tough structure reform like merging 18 majors into 9 and reducing 7% of the entrance quota is promoting for the next 3 years. Therefore progressing in a way that is connected with the university’s long-term vision.

Creating regional strategic business which make connections with region industries like “Fusion Automobile Components and Creative Human Resource Training Center for the Realization of Creative Economy.”

Recently, YU achieved a second place pass rate nationwide in the third examination for the bar of April and YU was selected at the Leaders in Industry-universities Cooperation program (LINC) in May. These are examples of YU producing bold outcomes. Therefore, YU received the greatest amount of government funding via the CK projects. These results show YU’s outstanding competitiveness. YU should not stop at external achievements but needs to profusely invest funds to student’s learning and improving YU’s competitiveness.
