It has been discovered through the release of United States government's information that the NSA (Nation Security Agency) accessed the personal information of many citizens without their knowledge. It has become a controversial issue. President Obama decided to disclose details about their information gathering to settle the controversy in September 2013. The disclosure revealed that the NSA exceeded its mandate and actually could have broken the law. In response to this issue the NSA stated that these types of monitoring programs were necessary in order to efficiently prevent security threats like terrorist activity. However, it became more controversial because the information that was revealed was completely opposite from the Obama government’s promise of “No warrant, No information gathering” and the citizens were unaware of these information gathering programs that were designed to gather personal information. As a result, the Obama government has some serious credibility and trust issues to resolve in the eyes of the American public.
