Hye-Rim Kim (Statistics, Junior)

In February, Hyo-Soo Lee, a Professor in the College of Business, became the 13th President of YU. I would like to make several appeals to the new President.
First, I hope that scholarships will be increased. YU has many scholarships, but I think more are needed, as currently only about two thousand YU students are on scholarship. Many students need more assistance than ever as the financial crisis has impacted the domestic economy heavily.
Second, I hope job placement and assistance programs will be better developed and administered. There are many programs to help in getting a job, but these programs only assist a few students. They need to increase personnel. Just having a Job Information Center  is insufficient for the entire Metropolitan area. Even though the Job Information page on YU web site is administered well, it needs to be updated more often.
Finally, and above all, I think the new President has to do his job with sincerity, responsibility and devotion to the students. If he makes decisions with the actual best interest of YU & YU's students in mind, who could blame him? This is the best way to obtain the support of the students.
The new President stands on the YU Glocal Initiative. I hope that this approach does not leave the current students behind. I look forward to being a YU alumnus. I really hope the new President can meet all of our expectations.
