Sun Jing

Senior, International Economics & Business

Yeungnam University

Hey everyone, my name is Sun Jing, but you can call me Emily. I come from China, and I'm an exchange student. My major is International Economics & Business. I've been here for almost 7 months now. I really enjoyed my last semester at this university, and what's more I had some unexpected and meaningful experiences this past winter vacation in Korea.
I really appreciate our university for offering us many chances to get a better understanding of Korea. I applied for the Window to Korea program last semester, and luckily our group was selected to go to Busan. We went to Busan at the end of December. It was such an amazing time for me. Although my hometown is also near the sea, I noticed that Busan was much different. We went to Haeundae and Gwanganli. I liked the night view at Gwanganli the most. The bridge is huge, and it is decorated with lights. I thought I was walking around the Milky Way when I was there. My buddy, who is a Korean, told us that Busan is not only famous for the amazing sights of the sea, but it is also famous for its delicious seafood. We had a lot of sushi that day, and my friend screamed that she had already fallen in love with the fish there.
I really enjoy my life on campus. Even though I've been here for just over half a year, I have experienced a lot. I really appreciate all the help from my professors and Korean classmates. I have a course called International Organizations; I especially liked the class buddy system for exchange students. I am also enjoying my life with my Korean classmates. I applied to be a member of YLC (Young Leader's Club). I really enjoy my time with them. All the members are very active and intelligent. We have many lectures conducted by famous people. On 25th March, there was a lecture held in the Chunma Arts Center. It was conducted by a best selling author, Tae-Won Kim. It was amazing. I also really appreciate the help I receive from my Korean friends. I used to study in the International House, and I think it's a really great place to make friends from all over the world. We study different languages from each other as well as get a chance to experience different cultures.
I was very lucky to be selected as a delegate to NEAN 2009, the Northeast Asia Network. It was held in Seoul, at Yonsei University this year, and there were 150 delegates from all over the world. I felt lucky to be the representative for Yeungnam University. NEAN 2009 focused on the cooperation of Northeast Asian countries to find better solutions to the current Financial Crisis. We also looked for ways to improve communication in the areas of culture and economics.
I was also surprised to get an internship at Ogilvy. It was actually, with Pharmax Ogilvy Health World. It is a very important branch of Ogilvy, and it is very famous in the field of Medical care. I worked in the Public Relations Department for a whole month. It was really a great experience for me. There were some programs related to the US and China. It gave me a better understanding of how things work between Korea, China and the US.
I really have had some wonderful and amazing times in Korea over the past 7 months, and I strongly believe that Yeungnam University has even more to offer.
