In the feverish excitement of the Olympics, we've heard that China has distorted the history of Goguryeo which was called east-north project(Dong-Buk-Gong-Jung), that is academic business that China has intended to make the history of Goguryeo exclusively Chinese without substantial.
It is certain that Goguryeo was established by the Yemac tribes who were ancestors of Koreans, but denying this fact, Chinese scholars are arguing that the Yemac tribes were one of the minorities of China and Goguryeo was founded within the boundary of their country . If their assertion is correct, then the Goguryeo period will disappear from Korean history. So far, numerous tribes have been absorbed in China and just like this, they have also intended for Korean history to be incorporated into their history. They want to gain official approval that the history of Goguryeo is theirs for several reasons. They insist that the kings of Goguryeo sent a lot of tributes to the Chinese dynasty and that there are a great deal of cultural heritage artefacts of the Goguryeo era in China.
This kind of problem arises from thinking light of our history unlike our ancestors.
History is considered a unnecessary subject but, as a history major I think all Koreans should pay more attention to our history than to any other subject. We should improve our past attitude and make our country strong. Most important is our interest in our history, and the current governments hard-line policy. We have to keep pace with the times and be proud Koreans.
