On Friday, February 3, Yeungnam University’s Future Car Conversion Component Project Team held the ‘1st University Student Model Electric Vehicle Autonomous Driving Contest.’ This contest provided short-term intensive education, expertise acquisition, and practical competencies on autonomous driving, a crucial technology in the fourth industrial revolution era.
This contest was part of the ‘Regional Innovation System (RIS)’ project based on local government and university cooperation. YU is the central university of the RIS project and is leading the future car conversion parts business.
The RIS project was established with local governments, universities, and local innovation institutions. The RIS project set up a development plan tailored to industrial demand and selects point areas according to the goals. In addition, it supports university education and local industrial innovation. 23 universities, Daegu city, Gyeongsangbuk area, 14 regional innovation institutions, research institutes, and more than 200 local companies will participate in the project.
The first contest was held at the Daegu/Gyeongbuk Training Center of Small and Medium Business Corporation in Gyeongsan City. 100 students from 28 teams from 12 universities participated in this contest. The participants in this contest acquired theoretical and practical knowledge for the production of autonomous vehicles through online and offline education before the contest. Through various education and practice, the participants designed autonomous driving programming using model electric vehicles for each team. In addition, the participants finished the self-driving model electric vehicle and the driving test through four days of training camp before the contest.
On the contest day (February 3rd), each team carried out various missions by driving self-driving model electric vehicles.
