학생지원센터는 1996년 10월 31일에 지상 3층, 지하 1층으로 구성되어 건축면적 444.19평 연면적 1152.95평으로 완공되어 2007년 현재까지 학생들의 복지를 위해 많은 부서가 상주되어 있는 건물이다. 2007년 현재 학생지원센터의 각 부서를 사진과 함께 알아보자.

1F |   종합봉사센터  1999년 7월 8일 학생지원센터로 입주한 종합봉사센터는 팀장 1명, 직원 3명, 계약직 1명, 행정인턴십 2명으로 구성되어 있다. 종합봉사센터는 학생들의 편의를 위해 각종 증명을 발급해주고. 학적, 장학, 입학, 유학, 병무 등에 관한 각종 상담을 해주는 부서이다. 또한, 학생증 관리 및 국제 학생증 발급과, 정보공개업무, 군 휴학, 복학 원서접수, 각종 확인서 추천서 또한 발급을 해주고 있다.

인력개발팀, 취업지원팀 1명의 팀장과 3명의 직원으로 구성되어 있는 인력개발팀은 학생들에게 현장실습교육을 운영하고, 공무원시험 및 임용고시 대비교육을 실시한다. 그리고 취업교과목을 운영하는데, 1~2학년을 대상으로 하는 진로탐색, 그리고 3~4학년을 대상으로 하는 취업전략도 운영하고 있다. 1명의 팀장과 3명의 직원으로 구성되어 있는 취업지원팀은 취업지원업무를 총괄·지도하고, 취업상담 및 추천, 취업홍보를 위한 기업체 방문활동관리, 그리고 아르바이트 채용정보 제공과 취업 채용정보 수집·제공하고 있다.

보건진료소  1996년 07월 20일 학생지원센터로 입주한 보건진료소는 소장 1명, 행정실장 1명, 행정직원 1명, 상주의사 1명, 간호사 2명, 치과위생사 2명, 환경미화 1명, 근로장학생 2명으로 총 11명의 인원으로 구성되어있다. 하루 평균 116명의 학생들이 찾는 영남대 보건진료소는 일반 진료 및 전문과별 진료, 심리상담, 약품투약, 치료 및 응급환자, 고혈압관리, 스켈링, 구강보건 및 교육 구급약품낭 지원 등 학생들의 보건에 관련한 업무를 하고 있다. 또한 건강공제증 발급, 지정병원진료비 심사 및 약제비 환불도 하고 있다.

2F | 학생활동지원팀, 장학팀 1997년에 입주한 학생활동지원팀은 팀장1명과 팀원3명으로 구성되어 있다. 이 부서는 총학생회, 총여학생회, 중앙감사위원회, 총동아리의 지도관리와, 영대문화 지도관리, 사회 및 해외봉사활동, 그리고 학생 포상과 징계 등을 관리하는 부서이다.
2005년 03월 02일 학생지원센터로 입주한 장학팀은 팀장 1명과 팀원 2명으로 구성되어 있다. 장학팀은 교내외 장학제도기획과 교내외 장학금(성적우수, 복지장학금, 행정인턴십, 이공계 국가장학금 등)을 담당하고, 학자금관련 업무도 보고 있다.

학생상담센터  학생상담센터는 학생들의 건전한 대학생활에 관한 전문적인 지도와 상담, 각종 심리검사 및 이와 관련되는 연구·교육활동을 통하여 학교생활에 보다 효율적으로 적응하고 자아개발을 이루게 하여 창조적이고 성공적인 대학생활을 영위하도록 함을 목적으로 하는 봉사기관이다. 과거 심리 상담을 많이 했던 것에 반해 요즘에는 진로나 취업에 관련된 고민 상담이 많이 이루어진다고 한다.

3F | 신문방송사  영남대학교의 눈과 귀 역할을 하는 신문방송사이다. 국자신문인 영대신문, 영자신문인 The Yeungnam Observer, 교육방송국인 UBS 이렇게 3사로 되어있다. ‘영대신문’과 ‘The Yeungnam Observer’는 호당 5,000부를 발행하고 있다. 두 매체는 교내의 각종 뉴스를 신속 정확히 보도하며 동창들의 활동과 소식을 전함으로써 정보전달, 교풍진작, 선후배 간의 유대강화 등에 기여하고 있다. ‘영대신문’과 ‘The Yeungnam Observer’는 교수, 직원, 학생 및 동문들에게 신문과 잡지를 배부할 뿐만 아니라 국내의 각 대학과 각급 교육기관 및 언론계, 해외자매대학에도 배부한다. 교육방송국인 UBS의 경우, 정규방송 중 오디오방송은 매일 오전(08:30~08:50)과 저녁(17:40~18:20)에 하며, 인터넷방송은 오후(12:00~13:00)에 한다. 인터넷 방송이 개국되면서 한번 방송된 프로그램도 지난 방송 보기를 이용해 다시 시청할 수 있다. 위성채널을 통해서 외국 주요 방송을 실시간으로 시청할 수도 있다.

취업상담실 & 취업프론티어기자단  취업에 관련해서 상담을 받을 수 있고, 또한 취업스터디를 한다. 또한 2006년부터 새롭게 생긴 취업프론티어기자단의 편집실도 있다.

YU-Student Support Center

The Student Support Center was established on the 31st of November 1996. The 444.19 pyeong-center exists to cater to the welfare-needs of YU-students.

One-Stop Service Center  The One-Stop Service Center was the first student-help center to be established among the many schools of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area. It provides a variety of customer services and conveniences. Presently, it has a roomful of PCs dedicated to enabling students to search for information from a wide variety of databases. The Service Center assists students in dealing promptly with educational records, affidavits, and documentation having to do with school, academic and administrative concerns and problems.
On July 20th 1999, the One-Stop Service Center moved into the Student Support Center. Its personnel comprise a head, three staff members, a contract worker, and two postgraduate interns.

Office of Student Development Services  The Office of Student Development Services offers job-related assistance in job-consultation and recommendation; visiting corporations; posting advertised job vacancies; on-the-job training; and civil service examinations.

University Health Center  The University Health Center was established in the Student Support Center on July 20th, 1996. It has eleven staff members who treat, on average, 116 students a day. The center performs medical examinations, offers mental-health consultations, dispenses medicines, gives emergency treatment, takes blood pressure readings, and offers general dental and first-aid treatment. It also gives health guidance to students, and operates several refund medical-fee schemes.

Student Activities Support Center & Scholarship Section  The Student Activities Support Center moved into the Student Support Center in 1997. It manages a wide array of student activities including domestic and international volunteer work, awards, and reprimands. The scholarship section moved in on March 2, 2005. This section works on establishing and assigning scholarships, selecting scholarship-students, and awarding scholarships.

Student Counseling Center  The Student Counseling Center took up residence in the Student Support Center in 1996, with the objective of implementing various student activities and offering students guidance in their campus lives as well as in their proposed careers. It also offers consultation and administers psychological tests for YU-students, thus helping them succeed on campus. In the past, many students asked for mental-health consultations, but these days most students are more interested in job-advice.

Yeungnam University Media  Yeungnam University Media communicates news, gives information, discusses issues, and deals with almost every major on-campus occurrence. YU-Media has three different arms: Yeungdae Shinmun; The Yeungnam Observer; and University Broadcasting System which all used to be housed in the Center for International Programs. But, some years ago, they moved to the Student Support Center.
The campus vernacular newspaper, Yeungdae Shinmun (a merger of the Daegu and Chunggu College newspapers, first published in June and December, 1954, respectively), was first printed in January 1968. It is published weekly during the academic term, and carries university news, information about domestic and international education systems, scholarly articles, and creative writing by faculty and students.
The Yeungnam Observer, (until 1982, named The Yeungnam Chronicle) a monthly four-page English-language tabloid was first published in 1969. Then, in 1994, it switched formats and became the "glossy" bi-monthly magazine it is today. The Observer is now a "classy" periodical with in-depth campus news stories, literary and scholarly contributions, social-commentaries, a writers' forum, letters to the Editor, and a good dose of the unexpected. The all-English magazine is edited by students under the supervision of Korean and native-speaker faculty members.
YU-Media has its own radio broadcasting station, University Broadcasting System. UBS was established in 1965 and has provided music, news, and other features on academic affairs, through internet and cable broadcasting. UBS serves not only the needs of the campus but also provides opportunities for students to participate in the communication sector. All positions including on-air and news staff are open to students.

YU-UP Webzine  The YU-UP Webzine was established in the Student Support Center in 2006 and provides valuable job-related data.
