현 중앙도서관은 1971년 6월 14일에 착공해 1974년 8월 31일 준공했다. 1974년 여름방학기간 동안 대명동 도서관에서 경산 신축 도서관으로 도서를 이전했으며, 그 당시 완공된 중앙도서관은 연면적 4,537.56평이고, 그 중 도서관 사용면적은 2,669.82평에 이르렀다.
2003년 03월 18일에는 리노베이션 착공식이 있었다. 12월에는 증축부분 및 고층부분 완공과 1차 자료를 이전, 2004년 12월에는 기존부분 완공과 함께 2차 자료도 이전했다. 그리고, 2005년 2월 23일에는 준공 및 개관식을 했다.
리노베이션의 과정에서 기존건물의 하중을 받는 기둥과 바닥 슬라브를 제외한 나머지 부분은 모두 철거하고, 하중에 약한 부분을 보강했다. 첨단 디지털자료실과 그룹학습실 및 연구열람실을 설치하고, 지하 1층에 24시간 개방열람실을 열었다. 또한 기존 건물과 완전평면으로 연결, 2,700여평을 증축하고 제반시설을 완전 새롭게 시공했다. 그리고 가장 두드러진 특징은 건물외벽을 벽돌에서 알미늄 복합 판넬과 유리로 처리한 점이다.
중앙도서관은 2007년 4월 30일까지 동양서 726,027권, 서양서 137,529권, 고서 79,907권,비도서 자료 36,556권으로 총 980,019권이 소장되어 있다.
또한 총 1,483석의 열람실 좌석이 있다. 1층에는 도서관장실, 디지털자료실, 열람사무실, 2층에는 인문·예술자료실, 어문학자료실, 인문과학서고, 3층에는 총류·학위논문실, 사회과학자료실, 사회과학서고, 신문서고, 4층에는 그룹학습실, 명예교수열람실과 교수연구실이 있다. 5층부터 11층에는 문자와 인쇄술의 발전, 서적과 문서의 기록이 한 민족 뿐만 아니라 인류문화의 발전에 어떻게 기여 했는가를 보여주는 고문헌이 보관되어 있다.
12층부터 18층까지는 각 부서별 연구소가 있는데, 12층에는 산업경제연구소·영남아메리칸센터·국어생활 상담연구센터, 13층은 영남지역발전연구소·독도연구소, 14층에는 경북한우클러스터사업단·민중생활사연구단, 15층은 사회과학연구소·학교교육연구소·교수학습지원센터·법학연구소·대학원미학 미술사학과, 16층에는 인문과학연구소·노인학연구소·중국연구센터, 17층에는 통일문제연구소·창업 및 중소기업경영지원센터·세미나실(공동), 18층에는 민족문화연구소가 있다.
20층 스카이라운지에는 학생들에게 인기가 많은 2개의 카페가 있다.

The symbol of Yeungnam University! The main library!
The original University library was on the Daegu campus, The Yeungnam University Library was established on the 22nd of December 1967 by merging the two libraries of Daegu and Chunggu colleges, which were founded in September 1947 and April 1950, respectively.
Work started on the present university library on June 14, 1971 and it was opened on August 31, 1974. Books were transferred from the Daegu site during the summer vacation of 1974. At that time, the library's gross area was 4,537.56 pyeong and it had a "useable" area of 2,669.82 pyeong.
The main library has also undergone the following renovations: a ground-breaking ceremony, 18th March, 2003; extension work to the multi-story building, December 2003; opening ceremony, 23th February, 2005.
Prior to April 2007, the building boasted 720,027 oriental books; 137,529 occidental books; 79,907 ancient books; and 36,566 (non-literature) data-volumes.
Today, the university library has seats for 759 in the 1st-basement and the Data Room can seat 724 - compared to the 1,416 seats it had before the renovation. The library now has 1,483 seats.

5th to 11th Floor : The storage and display of ancient books which show the development of human culture, as well as documents and letters which chronicle developments in typography.
12th to 18th Floor: Each floor houses a research institute.

Two cafes make up the Sky Lounge on the 20th floor where students can relax and refresh themselves.
