The world has changed remarkably with the sudden spread of COVID-19 around the world in January this year. People call it the ‘post-coronavirus’ era, referring to what it is today, which is different from before COVID-19. We cannot imagine life without a mask now, and even a little fever makes us worry. However, the disease has not only brought about bad results worldwide. The reality of being reluctant to have face-to-face contact has increased the speedy development of the fourth industrial revolution. The next-generation industrial revolution made by the convergence of information and communication technology has grown a lot near us with rapid development. It is easy to find by-products of the fourth industrial revolution in educational institutions such as universities.

Yeungnam University also has a lot in which to find the fourth industrial revolution. As of the second semester of 2020, YU is actively utilizing an electronic attendance system, electronic document system, and access and temperature QR codes based on IT technology. Also, most of the subjects except practice and experiments are taught in online classes. There are two types of online class methods: 1) uploading a video and allowing students to take and study the contents of that week, and 2) conducting real-time video classes with students according to class time using a program such as Zoom. As non-face-to-face classes are conducted, professors are creating classes that are centered on students. Students can have discussions after online pre-learning or take lectures after watching the presentation videos of other students and commenting.

Along with the online classes of the school itself, the popularity of K-MOOC, a Korean online open lecture service, has also increased. In this place, you can take lectures online anytime and anywhere without cost, such as the 4th Industrial Revolution, Artificial Intelligence, Science and Engineering, Basic Chemistry, Korean Studies, vocational education, and age-specific lectures. The Ministry of Education selects K-MOOC leading universities every year. This year’s selected university will receive 200 million won annually for three years to develop and operate courses; YU was named the leading university in 2016.

In addition to the above-mentioned contents, the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution are permeating our society more quickly, such as conducting interviews at some universities using AI. With the application of many such technologies, many departments related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution are also emerging.
